Troubleshooting Safety Sensors Before Hiring Garage Door Repair Pros

If you got a newer version of an automatic garage door, it’s most definitely equipped with safety sensors. As a critical component of garage doors, safety sensors work by detecting any obstruction in the path of the door, to prevent it from injuring pets or people, or damaging property. Whenever your garage door wouldn’t budge, one of the possible problems is the sensor.

Before calling local garage door repair professionals, check if you really have a sensor issue – but exercise caution when you do. First, it helps to know how typical safety sensors work. There are often two sensors, one on each side, with one sending the other a beam of infrared light. When this beam is disturbed, the door would refuse to budge, as a standard safety procedure. The electronic components inside sensors are typically long-lived, but they’re not invulnerable to failures over time.
